Does Discord support custom fonts?
Discord does not support custom font files in chat. Font generators work by replacing letters with lookalike Unicode characters that render the same on every device, so what you are actually sending is still plain text.
Will fancy fonts work in Discord nicknames and bios?
Yes. The Unicode characters generated here can be pasted into nicknames, channel names, server names, and the About Me bio, as well as ordinary messages.
Why do some characters show as empty boxes?
A box means the device's font does not include that character. Rarer sets such as fraktur, some circled variants, and heavy decorative styles are the usual culprits, especially on older Android devices. Stick to bold, italic, script, and fullwidth if you need it to look right everywhere.
Can people search or ping a name written in a fancy font?
Not easily. Unicode lookalikes are different characters from normal letters, so searching for the plain spelling will not match them and autocomplete becomes awkward. Many servers ask members to keep at least a readable prefix in their nickname for this reason.
Are screen readers able to read stylized Unicode text?
Often poorly. Stylized Unicode is read character-by-character or skipped entirely by many screen readers, so use it sparingly, and never for information that actually matters like server rules.
